University of Toronto's Center for Intelligent Buildings Digital Twinning (IBDT)

The new research center has been created to support a transformative shift in the applications of information systems in the built environment. The Center will create a Digital Twin for UofT's buildings through collaboration with the Dept. of Facilities and Services, UofT. The Center has three main objectives, which cover the commissioning, design and construction, and asset management phases of a project or facility.

Our Objectives

Data Repository

This centralized digital platform for building information will provide operators and occupants with the means to access and visualize different data about a building.

Business Intelligence
Business Intelligence

UofT's Digital Twin will integrate the use of business process reengineering principles and artificial intelligence tools to develop new knowledge and services that provide decision makers with predictive analytics and support, automating the decision making process.

Empowerment
Empowerment

The Digital Twin will not be used by facility occupants to share or view information or to report conditions or complaints. Rather, they will be empowered with tools that enables them to co-create new solutions for enhancing the performance of our built environment.
